Ecotourism

What is ecotourism?
- visiting natural areas/ecosystems
- expanding the knowledge of tourists
- observing wildlife in their natural habitats
- ideally, funds conservation programs
- benefits local communities.

Benefits
- creates employment - encourage community-based conservation awareness
- foreign exchange
- expansion of protected areas
- saves habitats/ecosystems improved protection for species

Disadvantages
- protection of the environment: some large-scale ecotourism operators have built large hotels, etc, which have negative;y impacted on the environment
- some operators don't actually filter the money back through to conservation efforts.

This country is making tourists promise not to harm the environment
